Ford is on the southern end of the Peak District National Park and is in the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands. It is the ideal location to base yourself and then to explore the rolling hills of peaks and north Staffordshire.

The stunning Manifold valley is just a few miles away. You can walk or cycle the 8 mile tarmaced trail and enjoy the amazing sights like Thors cavern. Stopping along the way at two cafes for a rest. Bikes can be hired at the Waterhouses end of the trail. A little further away is the Tissington & High Peak Trail, again bikes can be hired and make for a fun day out.

The famous stepping stones of the Dovedale valley are a must. Take a picnic and make a day of it and keep walking up the river all the way to Hartington.

The magnificent grit stone outcrop of the Roaches, a mecca for climbers from all round the world is a great place to explore. Enjoy the magnificent views from the ridge or just marvel at the antics of the climbers as they hang onto the tiniest of holds. Continue along the Roaches Ridge and you come to Luds Church. A crevasse in the rock.

The picturesque Rudyard Lake is a good place for young and old. Take a trip down the bank of the lake on the Steam narrow gauge railway or go for a cruise on one of the pleasure boats.

The new Peak Wildlife Zoo Park opens in April 2015 and is just 2 miles away.

For the thrill seekers the famous Alton Towers is just 15 minutes away. Spend the day riding on some of the worlds best roller coasters or enjoying fun of the water park. After the hustle and bustle of the park you’ll be pleased to get back to the tranquility of the cottage!

Chatsworth House, one of the countries most famous and greatest stately houses is a 40min drive away. It’s easy to spend a whole day in the house and grounds. On the way home you could stop at Bakewell and try the delicious Bakewell Pudding.

Why not visit Matlock Bath and take a ride on a cable car to the Heights of Abraham or visit the Tram Museum at Crich.

We are spoilt with the wide selection of farm shops and local butchers selling produce right from the field. Many of the pubs specialise in local fair too.
